7 habits of successful young people
Habit 6: Have a Collaborative Spirit
August 26th
Do not wait.
The time will never be just right.
Start where you stand,
and work whatever tools you may have at your command
and better tools will be found as you go along.” — Napoleon Hill
With the spirit of cooperation
What does cooperation mean?
In short, collaboration is when two
or more people work together
to achieve greater achievements or results.
It is not my own road or yours,
but a larger, wider road,
it is the “Highway”.
August 27th
“If you can’t do great things,
do small things in a great way.”— Napoleon Hill
You alone can’t do much,
together we can do a lot!
– Helen Keller
August 28th
“A goal is a dream with a deadline.”— Napoleon Hill
Learn how geese fly south in winter!
August 29th
“Our only limitations are those we set up in our own minds.”— Napoleon Hill
All the animals and plants on this earth are cooperating with each other.
The giant sequoia tree
(which can grow to over 90 meters tall)
grows in clusters
and has huge interlocking roots.
If they do not live in such clusters,
they will be knocked down by great storms.
August 30th
“The way of success is the way of continuous pursuit of knowledge.”— Napoleon Hill
Collaboration is nothing new.
If you’ve ever lived in a team,
you already know about the spirit of cooperation.
August 31st
“Action is the real measure of intelligence.”— Napoleon Hill
A good band is a good example of collaboration.
It’s not just drums, guitars, saxophones or singers,
it’s all mixed together to make music.
Each member brings their best to contribute
to common activities to create the best.
No instrument is more important than another,
it’s just that one instrument is different from another.

“You are the master of your destiny.
You can influence, direct and control your own environment.
You can make your life what you want it to be.”— Napoleon Hill
Cooperation is:
Welcome differences!
Work as a group
Be generous
Always find new ways
Non-cooperation is:
Endure the differences
Working alone
Thinking that only you are right
Compromise
September 2nd
“A genius is simply one who has taken full possession of his own mind
and directed it toward objectives of his own choosing,
without permitting outside influences to discourage or mislead him.”— Napoleon Hill
The spirit of cooperation is not instant.
It is a process.
And the foundation for that is:
learning to welcome differences.
September 3rd
“When your desires are strong enough,
you will appear to possess superhuman powers to achieve.”— Napoleon Hill
These differences create diversity for this life.
Diversity in skin color,
human race,
clothing,
language,
health,
family,
beliefs,
way of life,
beliefs,
skills,
age,…
September 4th
“The man who does more than he is paid
for will soon be paid for more than he does.”— Napoleon Hill
Faced with differences,
we often see the mentality of “Staying away from diversity”.
Those are the people who are afraid
to think about the differences
because they think their way of life is the best,
the best, and the only way.
September 5th
“The starting point of all achievement is desire.
Keep this constantly in mind.
Weak desire brings weak results,
just as a small fire makes a small amount of heat.”— Napoleon Hill
There is also the mentality of “Tolerating diversity”.
These people believe that everyone has the right to be different.
They don’t shy away from difference,
but they also aren’t eager to embrace it.
Although they appear to be intimate,
they can never cooperate
because they see their differences as obstacles,
not as individual advantages.
September 6th
“Tell the world what you intend to do,
but first show it.”— Napoleon Hill
Finally, there’s the “Welcome to Diversity” mentality.
People who welcome diversity appreciate differences.
They see it as an advantage,
not a weakness.
They understand that two people with different ideas complement
each other more than two people who think alike.
September 7th
“Set your mind on a definite goal
and observe how quickly the world stands aside to let you pass.”— Napoleon Hill
It is easier to accept differences if we recognize that:
In a way, we are all in the minority.
And we should also remember that diversity
is not a matter of mere appearance
but also a matter of the inside.
It is in our heads that we are different
that leads to our outward appearance.
September 8th
“Every adversity, every failure,
every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.”— Napoleon Hill
We are different because:
We learn in different ways
We have different ways of seeing things
Our personalities are also different
September 9th
“When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound,
rebuild those plans,
and set sail once more toward your coveted goal.”— Napoleon Hill
Instead of trying to change to look like someone else,
take pride in your unique qualities and differences.
A delicious mixed fruit plate is
because each fruit has its own flavor.
September 10th
“Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle.”— Napoleon Hill
Although there are many obstacles that prevent you from welcoming differences,
the three worst are:
indifference,
ignoring,
sectarianism,
and prejudice,
discrimination.
September 11st
“Plan your work and work your plan.”— Napoleon Hill
Indifference – ignoring makes you not know
what other people think and how they feel,
thereby unable to accept other people’s differences.
Listening and caring helps you open up to those around you and to yourself.
September 12nd
“Don’t wait. The time will never be just right.”— Napoleon Hill
There is nothing wrong with wanting to gather close friends,
but it becomes dangerous
when your group becomes separate
and rejects those who are not like you.
Those outside the group will feel like second-class citizens
and those in the group will fall into a sense of pride.
Cliqueing will make you soon lose your identity,
become identified with your bandmates,
and thus you are no longer a delightfully independent person.
September 13rd
“When you are able to maintain your own highest standards of integrity,
regardless of what others may do,
you are destined for greatness.”— Napoleon Hill
Have you ever felt ridiculed, nicknamed or stereotyped,
discriminated against because of your size
or because you live in the countryside?
Prejudice – discrimination is not a born nature.
It is something that is taught by others.
For example, children have no concept of class,
but as they grow up they absorb the prejudices of adults
and begin to discriminate between classes.
September 14th
“If you are not learning while you’re earning,
you are cheating yourself out of the better portion of your compensation.”— Napoleon Hill
Cooperation means more than just compromise or cooperation.
The compromise is 1 + 1 = 1.5.
Collaboration is 1 +1 = 2.
Cooperation is 1 + 1 = 3 or more
because the whole is always greater than the sum of the parts.
September 15th
“You can do it if you believe you can.”— Napoleon Hill
When do you disagree with your parents
about the time you go home at night
or disagree with your classmates about the time?
If we study together, there is already a way to do cooperation.
Here’s a 5-step process for reaching a partnership.
Identify the problem or opportunity
Understand the ideas of others
Let people understand my ideas
Generate new ideas
Find the best solution
September 16th
“Effort only fully releases its reward after a person refuses to quit.”— Napoleon Hill
The above 5-step process can be applied in the following situations:
Join a study group with 3 other people you don’t know.
You and your boyfriend can’t decide
who to go to for Christmas.
You want to go to college,
but your parents don’t have the money to pay the tuition.
You argue with your brother about who can use the computer.
September 17th
“Set your target and keep trying until you reach it.”— Napoleon Hill
A great collective action is like a big piece of music.
All voices and instruments can blend together at the same time,
but not against each other.
Each instrument and voice produces different sounds,
timbres, rhythms, and rhythms;
but they completely merge together
to form a new sound with a total nature.
That is cooperation.
September 18th
“You either control your mind or it controls you.”— Napoleon Hill
“In life you can forget the games,
the throws, the scores,
but you can’t forget your teammates.”
– Basketball player Miller Palmmore
September 19th
“More gold had been mined from the mind of men than the earth it self.”— Napoleon Hill
Let’s practice together the spirit of cooperation, friends!
1. When you meet an injured friend or neighbor,
don’t pity or avoid them just
because you’re afraid you don’t know what to say.
Go get to know them instead.
September 20th
“First comes thought;
then organization of that thought,
into ideas and plans;
then transformation of those plans into reality.
The beginning,
as you will observe,
is in your imagination.”— Napoleon Hill
2. Share a personal problem with an adult you trust.
The exchange of views will bring you new perspectives,
new ideas, from which your problems will be solved.
3. If you disagree with your parents, try:
– Listen to them
– Share your views
September 21st
“Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success.”— Napoleon Hill
4. Think of someone who annoys you.
Is there something different about them?
What can you learn from them?
5. Brainstorm with your friends and find something fun,
new, and different to do this weekend
instead of doing the same thing over and over.
