Life lessons
Chapter 17: The spirit also always needs to be taken care of
“The harmony between the body
and the mind will bring the source of health
and new ideas.” – Carl Thoresen
Life is balance
Thousands of years ago,
ancient Chinese
and Greek philosophers studied life on two fronts:
physical and mental.
Although their interpretations are different,
they are very much in agreement about the existence of these two factors
and assert that they are equally important.
They also agree that when we balance these two factors,
we will become perfect people, and live more fully.
The problem of today is that
too many people of all ages have not given enough attention
to these two basic elements of life.
That’s because the road into the 21st century
with all its technological marvels has led a lot of people to have misconceptions.
The high-tech world makes
it possible for people to travel,
acquire knowledge,
and absorb information at breakneck speed.
The more we are caught up in the rapid pace of development
and modern conveniences,
the less time we spend thinking.
Today, modern thinkers are trying to revive simple
but immensely valuable lessons from the past.
Life in balance between physical
and mental is giving us more meaning than ever.
Body care
We have never been more aware of the benefits of taking care of our bodies
than we are now.
We have a knowledge of nutrition and exercise
– something that was not appreciated much ten years ago
and we are experiencing an explosion in body care and training.
This is one of the few movements that is healthy and
sure to have good results,
but over a long period of time,
not just temporary.
There is a lot of good and valuable information on this,
so I don’t see the need to repeat it.
There are only two things
I want to say about strength training.
First, it helps to create the right attitude about body roles.
Second, keeping the body healthy does not have to be compared with other bodies or
needs to be by the standards of models
or sports athletes and bodybuilders.
Everyone has a different body as well as different faces.
Just each person taking good care of themselves
in accordance with their physical condition is enough
to improve our quality of life.
Mental care
“Our spirit is like a garden.
If it is not cared for or cultivated,
weeds will spread.” – Erwin G. Hall
How will your body work
if you only eat ice cream,
candy, donuts, chips,
cookies and only soft drinks?
Don’t get me wrong,
I’m against all of that.
Actually, I also like some of the above dishes.
But a diet consisting only of these will deprive your body
of some essential nutrients,
and your health will inevitably decline.
What would your morale be if all you read were cheap,
tabloid books;
you only watch sentimental plays,
violent wrestling matches;
or if you just like to listen to some kind of rap music;
Do you only watch horror movies?
I don’t blame those things,
but what if that’s all you put into your head?
Your mind will become solidified.
Your mind needs nourishment too!
You must know that the muscles in our body
if not used will atrophy.
So does the mind,
if you let it go “idle” most of the time;
If you think that studying is nonsense,
and it is not necessary to stimulate the brain to work,
think …
then your mental capacity will also atrophy.
Today, the advertising industry attacks us massively;
the media tells us many things that are not true about the world;
the entertainment business presents us
with many countervalues;
We are surrounded by people who complain all the time.
Those are definitely not healthy mental foods.
But remember, we all have choices.
We need to know how to choose food for the mind as well as for the body.
We can also get into the habit of allowing only healthy things to enter our minds.
An older and wiser friend told me many years ago that
he starts his day on a positive note.
Every morning,
he takes a little time to read something that
lifts spirits and encourages thought.
He says it not only helps him focus on the good things in life,
but it also helps filter out many negative things.
A short time later,
I imitated that. Its effect is enormous.
And this is probably my best habit.
We need to keep two important things in mind
when receiving information:
1. What do we allow to enter our minds?
2. How do we use that information?
We can let the good, the good enter our minds
by sifting through what we have read and heard from the world.
surrounding world.
Someone once said that it is terrible to waste wisdom.
How could such a wonderful machine go to waste?
When nurtured and usefully used,
wisdom helps us appreciate and discover life properly,
giving us a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
In general,
the more complete we become,
the better we feel about life and about ourselves.
“Those who develop the most spiritually are the ones
who receive the most joy in life.” – M. Scott Peck
